Weekly Photo Challenge: Big

Hunting Island Lighthouse – Beaufort South Carolina

For me it’s hard to believe that something so large could have been built in a time before computers. Built back during a time where people actually used pencil, paper and their minds to calculate the correct dimensions and to build something so majestic. I look at the Hunting Island Lighthouse as a thing of beauty but in truth it was built as a safety measure to warn ships to stay away due to sandbars, currents and other wrecks. Do you think you could take on a challenge to build something like this now? No cranes, no CAD blueprints, just good old strong backs and lots of determination. To me this is one BIG accomplishment!
